I wish I was like Rob Gordon aka John Cusack’s character in High Fidelity, but I’m not. While I think the art of the mix tape is a wonderful talent and I’m happy to reap the rewards of someone’s playlists or tapes, this is a talent I will always lack. I am random at heart. I burst out in playful dances during the day, my twitter stream is a collection of brain farts, and it’s safe to say that I march to the beat of my own 64 person marching band.
I go through musical phases about every 2 months. I’m mayor of a bar that plays hip hop techno but I also love to listen to DMB (don’t hold that against me) and drink a beer on the patio.
While my playlist my not be functionally great it is eclectically amazing (IMO). Each one of these songs holds a special place in my heart. Just a few to mention… Thao is my all time favorite artist. She’s adorable in person and she plays funky folk. My brother is a led head and I can remember riding in his car as a teen as he blasted led zeppelin. I know I’ll never be a stairway to heaven girl (too much hype). But play me mody dick or tangerine and I’ll be on cloud 9. Modest mouse represents my awkward years in boarding school. I played this song as I drove my car off campus for the last time. I’ve never been a NiN fan but when my high school boyfriend played me La Mer. I was in love. Soft, sweet, simple, and moving. I have yet to listen to another NiN song because I don’t want my image of them to be ruined.
The Faint is my secret pleasure. I love to rock out, bang my head, and get jiggy with it. The Faint is my choice of band to do this with. So like I said, not a perfect compilation but I guess that’s why I work in social media instead of music.
Suzanne Marlatt is a social media magician living in Chicago. She’s always wanted to travel back the middle ages and be a jouster, she’s an Apple geek hence the twitter name @applegirl and she’s currently dancing to her own playlist.
